Workshop Fees›
The birth doula workshop, including Intro to Childbirth for Doulas, is $525. Add the Lactation for Doulas course for a total of $580. Save $30 with the early bird rate when paid in full at least 8 weeks before the start date. Registrations within one week of the start date add a $40 late fee, space permitting.
If You Need to Cancel›
Registrations are non-refundable. You may move to another date within one year for a $50 fee, or give your spot to another person for your original workshop date at no charge. Date-move and transfer requests must be made in writing by email at least three weeks before the workshop start, so late changes do not affect other participants or our ability to hold the workshop. If something comes up within three weeks of your start date, please still reach out, and we will do our best to work with you.
If We Need to Cancel›
On rare occasions, a workshop must be canceled or merged based on enrollment, which is one reason registering early helps. This is uncommon, but if Capital City Doula Services cancels a workshop, the choice is yours: move to another date at no charge, or receive a full refund.
Attendance and Make-Up Sessions›
Full attendance is required to receive your certificate. DONA International requires complete workshop attendance for certification, so any missed session must be made up. Certification is what establishes your credibility as a doula and can open the door to payment from third-party payers, which is why we hold to this attendance standard.Melissa will make every effort to work with you to find a suitable make-up option for any missed time; if you know of specific times you’ll be unavailable; it’s best to discuss before the workshop when possible.
Virtual Participation›
Because our workshops are currently held live on Zoom, full participation matters. You will need reliable internet, a laptop or desktop computer (a phone is not sufficient for the interactive work), and a quiet, private space where you can focus. Active participation includes keeping your camera on and joining in through voice and the chat box when appropriate. Because the workshop is hands-on and interactive, it is not a good fit to attend while cooking dinner, at the salon, at a child’s ball game, or otherwise on the go.
Nurslings may pop in and out as needed, and babies under six months or not yet mobile are welcome in arms. For mobile children, please arrange childcare so you can stay engaged. If you need to be off camera for more than 15 minutes, let Melissa know. We are happy to work around special circumstances when planned in advance, for example stepping off camera briefly in the afternoon to get a child off the bus and settled at home.
Continuing Education Workshops›
Continuing education workshops are available and vary in price. DONA International requires 15 continuing education hours every three years to maintain certification, and we are happy to help doulas earn those hours.
Group Discounts›
Everyone wins when we train more doulas. If you can gather friends who want to learn, or help spread the word and build the workshop, you may qualify for a discount based on the number of participants. Contact Melissa to learn about the group discount plan, and together we can help change the world of birth.
Military Spouse Funding • Spouse Works (formerly MyCAA)›
We are proud to welcome military spouses and accept Spouse Works, the scholarship program formerly known as MyCAA. Eligible spouses can receive up to $4,000 in tuition assistance toward the doula workshop and related courses, which in many cases covers your training in full.
Our training is DONA International approved, and completing it can also open the door to becoming a TRICARE-credentialed doula who supports military families. To use Spouse Works, set up your free account at the Military OneSource MyCAA site, build your Career and Training Plan, and request funding within 30 days of the workshop start date. Reach out to Melissa before you register and we will walk you through the paperwork and timing so your funding is approved before the workshop begins.
Photo Policy›
By registering, you agree that we may use photos and video taken during the workshop to share with participants, on our website and social media, or for promotional purposes. At times these may also be reshared by DONA International or other partners, and you are welcome to use our workshop posts for your own marketing as well. If you prefer not to be photographed, let Melissa know before or during the workshop and we will gladly honor your request.
Certificate Policy›
You will receive certificates for the doula training, Intro to Childbirth, and lactation course, if applicable, through our online classroom. Download and save them in a safe place, as classroom access ends a few months after your workshop. Re-sending certificates is $25.
